Rooms in My Heart
By Joy Farr

Welcome to the rooms in my heart. Painted with love, the rooms in my heart are cluttered with family that loves me, educators, and friends that truly cared and supported my life. My memories are filled with joy and laughter.
The first room in my heart would most definitely start with my family room. My mom is the person that taught me how to be the best person I could be. She is still part of my decision-making today in particular matters of life. My dad is always there for me and when I was a child he created a fun atmosphere for me to grow and experience life. My older siblings demonstrated early on that I had a multitude of protectors ready to guide me through life as well.   I feel safe and secure in this room.
The most profound room in my house would be the music room.  I share with the love of my life, my husband, Nick Farr. He is truly my soul mate and reason my adult life has been so incredible. His love from an early time enveloped me like a love song. He gave me security and confidence. Our experiences together have given me a set of life lessons and memories to treasure for all times. Inside this room also is my little girl Marina Jill Farr. She is the most precious part of Nick’s and my heart. She has changed our lives in these five years she has been on the earth. She has humbled every thing we thought we knew about anything. Marina is a joy and a bright part of every day. Seeing her grow and learn has been so exciting and thrilling. Our lives are full of music, fast tempos and energy.
Another very significant room in my life is the playroom. My work and friendships young and old exist here. I still hold childhood friends so close to my existence even though our adult lives don’t make it easy to see each other very often. My early friendships helped mold me into the person I am today. From pretending to drive across the country in an old pinto in my garage to now going to dinner and talking for hours, friends have helped me appreciate life. My close friends today seem to often start as coworkers that share my passion for children and education. I have many close friends that are fellow educators. As I see some of them retire and move into different phases of life I miss the companionship. My work is a passion I have that drives many days in my current life. I love working with teachers and children trying to make our world a better place. I get lost in my job many days and just feel good about the work I am doing. I truly believe by helping teachers and children push to learn more and think at higher levels our earth will benefit. My influence may no longer be as direct as the classroom teacher but I just pray that the things I do support all of the teachers will make life better for children. This is the room where I choose to be as often as possible.
Next, would be my spiritual atrium that reaches in all areas of my existence. I became a Christian as a child and that influence has been a very meaningful with all parts of my being. I was raised in a strong church community. My family and friends were all focused on being kind to others and sharing with others. I was always immersed in the respect of teachers and elders and still believe in the importance of that today.
One additional room to share is my pet porch where many hours were spent with “the people”, my first puppies, RivergirlRiver and Riverboy Rutledge. My two Boykin Spaniels recently passed away. What a lifetime of love those dogs gave in their short time here on earth. River and Rutledge were my first “children”. The time spent with them helped every stress and worry go away. My dogs brought unconditional love and happiness to our family.
